After Hours Tuxedo is a family-owned tuxedo rental and sales business serving the Washington, DC area and has been at the same location in Arlington, Virginia for over 75 years. As a small business, we take pride in our friendly, personal, and detail-oriented service. We have a wide selection of tuxedos in stock and can special order hundreds of styles for purchase or rental from our distributor’s collections.
History
In 1939 Max Mager, a tailor from Eastern Europe and then the sweat shops of New York City came to Arlington, Virginia. He set up a tailor shop specializing in handmade suits. He named the establishment Square Deal Tailors, a name that can still be seen on the sign outside our shop.
Max and his wife Gussie, and their two children lived in an apartment above the shop. Max’s son Jerry, introduced tuxedos into the business in 1953. This established Arlington’s first tuxedo shop. After Hours Tuxedo became well know in Arlington and flourished. The business expanded to three locations in the early seventies, with other locations in Bethesda and Marlow Heights, Maryland.
Jerry Mager ran the store until his death in 1994. Jerry’s daughter Patti and son-in-law Harold purchased the store in 1994 and they currently operate the store today. The store still stands in its original building with the two apartments upstairs, where Max Mager originally lived.
